The food orgy continues beyond the summer, but not in cyberspace. And certainly not to the same magnitude - dorm food, as much as Williams tries, cannot compete. In fact, in the fall, I will be undertaking a new challenge - how to make dorm food look and sound appealing! Anyway, I'll be posting about old food experiences for a little while, as I have quite the backup of food pictures, and have been intending to start this blog for quite some time now. So bear with me..
I thought I'd include this meal even though I did not create it - it's more for aesthetic pleasure and the acknowledgement of our favorite sushi restaurant in Rohnert Park, Hana. Also, my fixation on food preparation and consumption is limited to California cuisine because (surprise!) that's what we have locally. However, I love ethnic food and would like to share and salivate over one of Hana's bento boxes.
Included is:
Shrimp and vegetable tempura - Owner Ken uses a batter that isn't too heavy, and the morsels are fried to light perfection. My personal favorite is the pumpkin tempura. I could live off pumpkin and butternut squash.
Spicy Tuna Roll - excellent quality raw tuna mixed with Ken's special spicy seasoned mayonnaise. Furthermore, two things that set Ken's sushi apart that of other chefs/restaurants is the consistency and flavor of the rice, and the texture of the seaweed. Both have the essential crunch.
Sashimi - extremely high quality raw fish. 'Nuff said. I love the sweet egg, daikon root, sisho leaf, and peanut-seasoned spinach - what complements!
Chicken Teriyaki - honestly, my least favorite. Delicious and hearty, but by nature of the dish and not the kitchen's preparation, boring.
What a spring break treat!
